The Blogroll -- Exchanging Links With Others

You'll probably find that there are many other bloggers in your niche. You may as well take advantage of that! Some of them will have many readers and high rankings in the search engines. If you're able to exchange links with these high rollers, you can benefit greatly.

You'll notice that there is a "Blogroll" or links section in your self-hosted Wordpress. This is where you can add links to other blogs or sites that you are interested in. It can be of great benefit to you to add other blogs in your niche to this Blogroll. Then, you'll have a lot more bargaining power when you ask if they want to exchange links with you!

You might be wondering how you approach people to exchange links. In many cases, all it takes is a friendly, professional e-mail stating that you've added their link (if you have), and would love for them to add yours somewhere if they find your content to be interesting. Some people will declineSetting Up Your Blogroll your offer, but others will take you up on it, seeing as how you're already giving them a link. Others will not want the links to be "obvious" to Google (which doesn't like link manipulation), and may put your link on another site they own. In any case, you can definitely come out a winner!

Don't worry if they decline your offer -- you can simply move on to the next blogger! Also, keep in mind that you can contact website owners in your niche. You might even want to branch out a little bit more.

Instead of just contacting those who are directly in your niche, you can see if any bloggers with blogs related to your niche are interested. This will still give you highly related links, and the webmasters will not feel like you are direct competition. You might get more of them to agree to the exchange!

This is sometimes a time consuming process, but exchanging links can be a great way to get more people to your site. Targeted people will click through from the other blog and you will gain more authority in the eyes of search engines like Google.
