Maintaining an Offline Business Website

Along the same line as web design, website maintenance is a great service for your client. A busy business owner doesn't have time to update a website constantly. For the most part, neither does most of the staff unless that is their job function.

There are many items that need constant updating on a website from daily specials to the latest product releases. Much of the same information you use for the social networks can also be used to maintain the website. Sit down with the business owner and go over the information that changes the most and who in the organization is responsible for that information. This can be anything from the latest prices to the opening of a new location. It will be important to have a consistent line of communication with the business so reliable and accurate information can be gathered.

Beyond the content that needs updating there can be a lot of backend software that needs to be updated. There could be split tests that need to be maintained or autoresponder code that needs to be changed. Go over the web platform and see what software products are used. Signup with the software vendors to receive product update alerts. Many security vulnerabilities go unpatched because an owner is unaware that they are even using the product.

Explain to the business owner why it is Website Maintenanceimportant to maintain the website. Just like a physical store that should be kept clean, safe and neat, so is the virtual storefront on the World Wide Web. They will be happy that you are providing this service and providing real value.

Don't forget to stay organized and keep the scheduled updates in a calendar. The last thing you want is to miss an important update for your client and have them miss out on sales.

In the next lesson we will cover some more ideas for providing an exceptional service for you clients.
